- Footballers watch Sunderland’s exciting 5-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Barclays Premier League
Monday, September 28th 2009 – Sunderland, England: The Digicel Kick Start Clinics footballers ended a dream week at Sunderland by cheering on the home team to an exciting 5-2 triumph - led by a Kenwyne Jones double - over Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Barclays Premier League fixture on Sunday afternoon.
The cheers of the Digicel Kick Start Clinics footballers were part of a crowd of over thirty thousand spectators in the Stadium of Light whose combined efforts pushed Sunderland to win the game.
The match brought to an end an exciting weekend for the boys. On Saturday morning, the footballers went shopping at the Metro Centre in Newcastle, followed by a trip to see the Angel of the North – a steel sculpture of an angel which is one of the most viewed pieces of art in the world – and in the evening, they visited a local bowling alley.
On Sunday morning, the footballers returned to Sunderland’s Academy of Light to watch Sunderland’s Under 9, Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 teams take on their counterparts from Newcastle United, with Sunderland winning all of the matches.
Commenting on their action-packed weekend, the boys said they had a fantastic time - and having the chance to watch Sunderland in action on two occasions was so much more than they could ever have expected.
The Digicel Kick Start Clinics footballers depart Sunderland to return to their homes across the Caribbean on Monday, September 28th 2009.
