Friday, September 4th 2009 – Kingston, Jamaica: Jamaica and St. Vincent & the Grenadines are all set to battle it out on Sunday, September 6th, in the final of the Digicel Caribbean Cup New York at the Jefferson High School on the corner of Flatlands and Sheperd in Brooklyn, New York.
Digicel, proud sponsor of the Digicel Caribbean Cup New York, will be on hand on Sunday to make sure that each and every Caribbean football fan in the New York Diaspora enjoys an exciting day out. Not only will football fans be treated to a host of exciting competitions and giveaways throughout the day - including the ‘Digicel Kick for Cards’ during the half time of each match where fans win minutes to call friends and family back home in the Caribbean - but Digicel is also bringing Jamaican Dancehall artiste, Elephant Man, to entertain the crowd with a special performance before the final match kicks off at 5pm.
The first match of the day kicks off at 3pm with Grenada and St. Lucia meeting in the third place playoff, before Jamaica and St. Vincent kick off at 5pm. The Digicel cheerleaders will be entertaining the crowd in the buildup to the matches with their energetic dance routines and the Digicel booth will be open for customers who want to buy Digicel Top Up or send minutes to people back home in the Caribbean.
Digicel’s Country Manager for the Diaspora, Valérie Estimé, said of Sunday’s final: “So far, the Digicel Caribbean Cup New York has produced some exciting displays of football and I’m delighted that Digicel has been able to support this year’s tournament. The Digicel booth will be open for anyone who wants to learn more about Digicel’s products and services for Caribbean customers living in the Diaspora, and there will be a host of exciting competitions and giveaways taking place throughout the day.”
This is the fourth time that Jamaica and St. Vincent have met in the finals of this tournament, with St Vincent winning three of the four clashes. Jamaica, however, are the reigning champions having claimed the Digicel Caribbean Cup for the last four years.
Tickets for the final of the Digicel Caribbean Cup New York are on sale for $10 and are available at the Jefferson High School Stadium.
Digicel has a wide range of products and services on offer to the Diaspora community such as; online top up – where customers can log on to any Digicel website and top up or send minutes to people back home; retail top up – where customers can go into any one of over 100,000 retail stores in the UK, Canada, the Caribbean and the USA and purchase Digicel top up or send Digicel minutes to friends and relatives in their home country; and Digicel calling cards – where customers calling friends and family in Haiti, Jamaica, El Salvador and Honduras can call home at competitive rates using minutes stored on the calling card.
